Travel Mondays | Almeria

14.7.14

Today’s Travel Monday is taking a look back to last July when Luke and I went to Almeria in southern Spain. Almeria had a very old western type style about it with the sandy mountains and beautiful sunsets...

This trip was a family holiday, Luke, Auntie Lynn and I went to visit my Auntie Marilyn and her husband John. They have lived there for 6 years now and have a beautiful house up in the mountains. It was very different to our usual jam packed itinerary non-stop holiday. It was a very tranquil place to unwind and relax, just what I needed to de-stress the week after arriving back from our holiday in America. Sitting round the pool with the views from their house was bliss! Marilyn and John know all of the local bars and restaurants around where they live, it really gave us a feel for traditional Almerian culture. Everything was so stripped back and simplistic, the restaurants almost felt as if you were sitting in someone’s living room, the people were so friendly. You can almost live for nothing in Almeria, with every drink you order you get a choice of tapa for free! Marilyn and John were both so hospitable too. They were always at our beck and call, cooking us gorgeous meals and taking us on little day trips. One of the trips I particularly enjoyed was the local market; they sold everything under the sun! From clothes to food - the fresh fruit was so tasty, we grabbed a bag of fresh cherries which were amazing! It was such a laugh and lovely to catch up with family and her two little dogs Titi and Louis. I can’t wait for our next visit.
They have a website were they take bookings to stay at their home, it’s honestly one of the nicest places I've stayed, with the added company of two fantastic hosts with great cooking skills! You can find their website by clicking HERE
There aren't any tips/must do's as such with this trip with it being a family holiday up in the mountains. I hope you enjoyed a little insight to Almeria, thank you for reading!
